Doxycycline prescription: Doxycycline is an antibiotic that is primarily used to treat infections caused by bacteria, including pneumonia, bronchitis, sexually transmitted diseases (STD) and infections of the bladder, kidney, prostate, stomach, ears, nose, skin, and throat. It can be used in the long-term treatment of acne or to prevent malaria when traveling to other countries where malaria is prevalent. You should not take this drug if you are allergic to doxycycline, minocycline, or tetracycline. Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had: * porphyria (blood disorder) * problems with your liver * heartburn or a condition called esophagitis Doxycycline use: Doxycycline is used for many different types of infections, including respiratory tract infections due to Hemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae, or Mycoplasma pneumoniae. Doxycycline is a tetracycline antibiotic. It works by slowing the growth of bacteria in the body.

Before taking doxycycline, tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease. You may not be able to take doxycycline, or you may need a dose adjustment or special tests during treatment. Do not give doxycycline to a child younger than 8 years old. Doxycycline can cause permanent yellowing or graying of the teeth, and it can affect a child's growth. Throw away any unused doxycycline when it expires or when it is no longer needed. Do not take any doxycycline after the expiration date printed on the bottle. Expired doxycycline can cause a dangerous syndrome resulting in damage to the kidneys. |
